X-Men: Apocalypse will not hit theaters until 2016, but the cast of the film continues to fill out thanks to announcements from director Bryan Singer. Now, thanks to him, we will know who will play Nightcrawler in the sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Singer announced on Instagram earlier this week that Kodi Smit-McPhee, who has appeared in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road, will play a young Nightcrawler in the movie. We last saw the character in X2: X-Men United when Alan Cumming portrayed the blue-skinned mutant with the ability to teleport.

The director also revealed on Twitter last month that Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner would play Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp would play Storm, and Tye Sheridan would play Cyclops. Turner tweeted her joy about the news on Thursday.

Turner plays Sansa Stark on HBO's hit Game of Thrones, while Shipp is best known for her role as Aaliyah in a Lifetime biopic. Sheridan is a relative unknown, but he has received critical praise for his work in the 2012 film Mud.

The sequel will take place in the 1980s, so does this mean that some of the more famous 80s X-Men characters could appear in the movie?

EW recently posed that question to writer Simon Kinberg, specifically with regard to Dazzler, the disco-inspired mutant. "Could happen," Kinberg said with a laugh. "We're certainly looking at mutants that would fit into the period." It's unclear at the moment which mutants could join the roster, but Kinberg said he and Singer want to honor the time period. "That's the era that I grew up in," he said. "The music, the fashion, the videogames: We really want to integrate all of that in the movie, and have it infuse the movie with a different vibe."
