Based on the crime novels by the late author Elmore Leonard, the final Season 6 season of Justified continues on FX. Will Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) find himself losing to the "chess game" set up by Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) and Ava Crowder (Joelle Carter)?

In our previous recap, after proposing to Katherine Hale (Mary Steenburgen), Avery Markham (Sam Elliott) ordered the death of Choo-Choo. In a blaze of glory, Choo-Choo went down in a fatal shootout with Raylan and Tim (Jacob Pitts). Though Ava (Joelle Carter) figured out which mine shaft Boyd and her uncle, Zachariah (Jeff Fahey), are working on, Limehouse (Mykelti Williamson) made a call to her house that threatened everyone involved.

In our recent recap, while Raylan had a visit from his wife and daughter, Boyd took Ava on a surprise hunting trip. Pointing a gun to her head, Boyd listened to Ava as she revealed she has been ratting out on him to Raylan. Boyd handed her his gun, demanding to know if she was sleeping with his former best friend. Knowing that they still loved each other, Boyd promised Ava he would stall Raylan while he stole Avery's money.

Before the scene cut to black, Boyd took out the fake clip and put back the real bullets into the gun; it was a test.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carter reveals if Ava was going to pull the trigger, "I think in that moment, it wasn't about wanting him dead. It was about, 'This is the position you put me in, this is the position I am in. I'm not a cold-blooded killer. I don't want to kill you. If that's the way you want it to end, then it's your decision' Up until that point, she really hadn't given Boyd up [to Raylan] in any way. She wasn't really giving Raylan a lot to help him. There is a loyalty to Boyd and that relationship, and she doesn't need to kill him at this point."

In an interview with TV Guide, Goggins reveals letting Ava live sets up the final confrontation between Boyd and Raylan, "What you'll see amped up from here on out is Boyd is losing his mind. Raylan is getting to Boyd Crowder. [This season] is a dance between Raylan undermining the coolness that is Boyd Crowder and Boyd Crowder undermining the coolness that is Raylan Givens. Which guy is going to win? It's a chess game and one episode one person wins, in the next episode the other person wins. Boyd loses greatly in this episode, but he has to win. And Raylan has to win. If that's the case, somebody is going to lose."

We have 5 reasons why you should be watching the final season of Justified.

Justified continues Tuesdays, at 10 p.m. on FX.
