FX's 'The Americans' Season 3 Recap: 'Divestment': Will Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys Ask Gabriel For Favor?
Season 3 of The Americans continues with an all-new episode on FX. With the threat of their covers being blown by Martha Hanson (Alison Wright), will undercover spies Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Philip (Matthew Rhys) Jennings discover what they want from 'Divestment?'
While Elizabeth takes her hostages into the hideout, Martha is chosen to be interrogated. Philip offers money and a new life to his hostage, but he refuses. Back at the Russian prison, Nina (Annet Mahendru) gets news she will get a reduction of 10 years for betraying her cellmate. To earn her freedom, Nina is given another mission, to get inside the head of a scientist.
During her interrogation, Martha is asked who has gone into the director's office. When she is presented with the pen in question, Martha can't remember where it came from. After Elizabeth interrogates the hostage, Philip doubts his info is any good. As more agents get picked for the interview room, Martha is trying to keep her cool as Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich) makes his trip to the memorial.
While Stan's partner is being interrogated, the interviewer goes through his entire background and asks about his race. Elizabeth then lets her hostage go and watches her new partner pour gasoline over the her other capture. Philip and Elizabeth watch as their other hostage is burnt up in flames.
At the library, Paige (Holly Taylor) looks up info about her parents' civil rights protests. Elizabeth goes back to interrogating her hostage, promising to put a bullet into his head. The hostage reveals he was supposed to put a bomb at a public event. He never set the timer because he was afraid to die; the bomb is still in his dorm.
Nina is taken to another cell, with a nicer bed and bigger room. Oleg (Costa Ronin) meets with his superior, who says his father wants him to return. Philip has the bomb in his bag, but won't let his partner kill the hostage. Elizabeth agrees with Philip to give the hostage a second chance. They leave him stranded and alone on an empty street.
Nina meets with an old face, who isn't too happy to see her. He will never forgive her for her betrayal. Philip is warned that being married and at war don't always go together. Stan's boss is being blamed for his negligence in security. He takes his anger out on a machine.
Paige asks her mother about her friend, Gregory. She doesn't know if he was a criminal or not; nothing is ever simple. Nina meets with the scientist, who could care less about her.
Martha meets with Clark (Philip) and bursts into tears. She knows he's lying to her. Clark tells Martha he's in love with her. As they embrace, Elizabeth meets with Gabriel (Frank Langella), who has a letter from her mother.
Elizabeth asks Gabriel a favor; to help Philip's son come home from Afghanistan. Clark and Martha are uncomfortable being in bed together.
