Killed for Eyeing Boy: Pakistani Parents Beat and Murder Teenage Daughter with Acid in Horrific 'Honor Killing' [DETAILS]
The parents of a 15-year-old girl from Pakistan recently admitted to killing their own daughter for supposedly dishonoring the family by "eyeing a boy." Reports confirm that Mohammad Zafar and his wife Zaheen, who recently spoke to BBC news from a Pakistani jail, first brutally beat their daughter Anusha before murdered her by pouring acid all over her body. The horrific death is ritualistically referred to as an "honor killing" - by inappropriately looking at a male, Anusha had brought public shame upon her family - the Zafars insist that their teenage daughter had to be rightfully punished.
"Honor killings" are unfortunately very common in Pakistan - women are sometimes "rightfully" killed for marrying or having what are considered inappropriate relationships by their families.
The Zafars explain the killing of 15-year-old Anusha (which supposedly occurred on Oct. 29 in the small town of Kotli) to a BBC news correspondent from behind bars:
"There was a boy who came by on a motorcycle. She (Anusha) turned to look at him twice. I told her before not to do that, it's wrong. People talk about us because our older daughter was the same way," claims Mohammad. He then went on to harshly scold his younger daughter for behaving in such an inappropriate manner. But verbal abuse apparently wasn't enough.
"She said 'I didn't do it on purpose. I won't look again.' By then I had already thrown the acid. It was her destiny to die this way," explains Anusha's mother. The decision for Zaheen to dose her own daughter in painful acid was quick, but she believes it was the right thing to do given the circumstance.
Following the brutal beating and acid bath, Anusha was taken to a local hospital and declared dead the next morning.
The Zafars seemingly have no regret for killing their own daughter in such a devastating manner.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan released a report stating this about "honor killings" - ''Throughout the year, women were callously killed in the name of honor when they went against family wishes in any way, or even on the basis of suspicion that they did so. Women were sometimes killed in the name of honor over property disputes and inheritance rights."
