Following word that comedian Ricky Gervais and actor Eric Bana were teaming up for a comedy film title Special Correspondents, it's now being reported that the film will be picked up by the fine folks over at Netflix. The online streaming service is of course no stranger to Gervais, as they are the home for his latest series Derek, which aired its finale special back in Dec. 2014.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Special Correspondents will premiere sometime next year on Netflix. The film follows Gervais as a radio journalist who goes so far as to fake the news stories he reports.

"Special Correspondents is classic Ricky Gervais; smart social satire with heart," reads a statement from Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandros. The exec goes on to note, "It's the kind of great grown-up comedy that studios rarely make anymore, one that's perfect for Netflix members around the world."

Gervais also released a statement following word that Netflix was joining Special Correspondents, saying that the online streaming service has "shaken up the TV industry." The Office creator claims that they'll certainly do the same for Hollywood.

"It's great to be part of the changing future," he said. "Ted Sarandos is the new Godfather of entertainment and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse."
