Ariel Winter, 'Modern Family' Star's Mom Denies Abuse Allegations, Teen Temporarily Placed in Sister's Care
Reports confirm that an LA judge has ordered that 14-year-old "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter be placed in the temporary care of her older sister, following allegations that Winter's mother Chrisoula "Crystal" Workman physically abused her. While Workman and her son Jimmy heatedly deny the abuse claims, she has been ordered to stay away from Winter after allegedly slapping and emotionally abusing the teen. Since the court order in October, Winter has left her mother's home and now temporarily resides with her older sister Shanelle Gray.
LA court papers confirm that Winter, who plays brain-child Alex Dunphy on the Emmy-winning television comedy sitcom "Modern Family," will be under the guardianship of Gray until a November 20 hearing. According to reports, Gray was also removed from Workman's care following very similar abuse claims years ago. Even so, Workman's son Jimmy tells Us magazine that the allegations just aren't true.
"There is no truth to these allegations. The allegations made 20 years ago are not true and the ones today are not true," Jimmy Workman stated. "This is a mother who does everything for her kids... Chris misses Ariel and wants her to come home."
Reps for Winter have yet to make any comment about the abuse allegations.
