Entitled The Nightmare, this new film explores some of the scariest, creepiest dreams that were compiled from those suffering from this terrifying condition. Imagine just waking in bed, not able to move, as someone or something comes closer and closer to you. While sleep paralysis is a known and understood condition, what's odd is that so many of those that suffer from it have very similar dreams in this state. Something is there, watching you. You can make out its dark silhouette, maybe some other features, but as it moves closer to you, you cannot react.

"The Nightmare is inspired by a disturbing experience I had about a week before graduating college. At about 5AM I woke suddenly from a deep sleep and was horrified to realize I was frozen in bed, unable to move, unable to speak. But I could somehow sense movement outside," Ascher says in a description of the influence for making this documentary. He describes that he does see a figure, featureless but advancing towards him from where he sensed it.

"It had the silhouette of a slender man but was entirely black and featureless, sort of a three dimensional shadow," he continued. "Then it was over me, peering straight into my eyes and I was held fast as if stuck in amber. I have no idea how long I was stuck like that but eventually my senses blurred and time passed and then I was able to wrench myself awake as if peeling my skin out of a glue-trap. I had no idea what it was or when it might return."

If you haven't experienced sleep paralysis, you will get something pretty close to it with this new documentary. Watch this new trailer for The Nightmare right here (via Twitch Film / Slash Film):
