Purdue's Hopeless: Danny Hope Fired By Purdue Despite Bowl Journey, Who Will The Boilermakers Hire As New Head Coach?
Danny Hope has been fired by Purdue and has been given a $600,000 buyout. Since 2007, Hope lead the team to two Bowl appearances in 2011 and 2012, but with a 13-19 record in the Big Ten may not be the enough for the college to keep Hope.
According to the Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke, "There is no question that our football program has seen considerable growth under Danny's leadership, particularly in the areas of academics, player development and recruiting," Burke said, "I applaud him for his passion about Purdue University and the young men he coaches. He and his staff have devoted their lives to improving the program, but as I told him earlier this afternoon, those efforts did not equate to the consistent on-field success that both of us expected." He added, "I want to personally thank Danny and his wife, Sally, for their contributions not only to Purdue but to the Greater Lafayette community."
Hope gained the coaching position in 2009 after he spent one year as the assistant head coach under Joe Tiller. Perdue has yet to make a decision on who they will hire to replace Hope, but on Perdue's blog offer their personal selection considering Dave Doeren, Northern Illinois head coach, Boilermakers head coaches,Sonny Dykes of Louisiana Tech, Kyle Flood of Rutgers, Kliff Kingsbury of Texas A&M, and Mark Helfrich of Oregon.
