Detroit Dad Gets Life in Prison: D'Andre Lane Sentenced for Murdering 2-year-old Bianca Jones After Claiming Daughter was 'Kidnapped'

D'Andre Lane of Detroit was recently sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his own infant daughter, Bianca Jones. The dad of 2-year-old Jones claimed that his daughter was kidnapped during a carjacking a year ago, and stuck with that story as the Judge gave handed down his ruling on Monday, Dec. 3. Lane insists that his daughter is still alive and in danger, and called the judge a "liar" after he was condemned to live the rest of his life behind bars.

33-year-old Lane was convicted in October, 2012 of felony murder and child abuse in the Dec. 2, 2011 of young Jones. Back when Jones first "disappeared," Lane's emotionally-driven plea for help inspired dozens of volunteers and law enforcement to look for the missing girl throughout the dangerous streets of Detroit and its surrounding towns. Authorities soon became skeptical of Lane's carjacking story, and after questioning the troubled father came to the conclusion that he made the whole thing up to cover up the morbid fact that he killed Jones with a stick because she wet herself and wasn't toilet-trained.

While Jones' body has never been found (police believe her found disposed of it in an incarcerator) Lane continued to plead his innocence throughout the entire proceedings, claiming that police led an incomplete investigation. "I did not murder my child. I did not abuse my child. I love my children, all of them," Lane told judge Vonda R Evans of the Wayne County Circuit before she imposed the life sentence. "My daughter is alive," he exclaimed. "She's missing, she will be found. We will correct every wrong that's taken place in this system." (Lane is the father of seven children from seven different women).

Even so, Evans insisted that Lane used "sex, manipulation, mental abuse and excessive discipline" to influence those around him. "It was your way or the highway," Evans said in court. "That poor child - your child, Mr. Lane - you destroyed mentally and ultimately physically ... you will now pay with your own life."

Lane was ultimately dismissed from court and escorted out by sheriff deputies after he angrily muttered, "Vonda, you're a liar."

While Lane did admit that he strongly disciplines his children, and did spank Jones for wetting the bed, he continues to insist that he has nothing to do with her disappearance and murder. Jones' mother still sticks behind Lane's story. "The justice system cheated us. I want the court to know they made a mistake, and I intend to correct it," Banika Jones declared in the courtroom on Monday.

Lane claims that Jones was in the back seat of his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis in December 2011 when the vehicle was apprehended by armed carjackers. While he didn't call 911, police eventually discovered the car, but no 2-year-old Jones.

After some investigation Lane became the crime suspect in Jones' disappearance and imminent death. The most important piece of evidence for assistant prosecutor Carin Goldfarb was testimony from forensic canine expert Martin Grime - his cadaver-sniffing dog allegedly hit on human decomposition in Lane's car and home just two days after Jones went missing.

Even so, defense attorney Terry Johnson insists that Lane's life sentence was influenced by the plight of social media, and claims that there's still no evidence that Jones is dead, only that she is missing.

Lane has an automatic right to appeal his conviction.
