Boy, 7, Killed in Gun Store Parking Lot Misfire: Pennsylvania Boy Tragically Shot to Death by Father Outside Twigs Reloading Den [DETAILS]
Reports confirm that an unidentified 7-year-old Pennsylvania boy was killed outside of a popular gun store in Mercer County early Saturday morning (Dec. 8). The young boy died in the parking lot after a tragic misfire led to a bullet landing right in the child's chest. Police allege that the boy was strapped into a booster seat in the back of a pickup truck outside Twigs Reloading Den, when his father's own handgun mistakenly went off at approximately 11 a.m. The unfortunate death is currently being ruled as an accidental shooting.
Further details surrounding the shooting are still unknown, but a CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh reports:
"The boy was shot in the upper right chest while in a booster seat in a pickup truck parked at the shop ... The boy's father said he went inside the shop to sell a .9 mm hand gun and while he was backing out of his parking space, the gun went off."
An investigation involving the gunshot tragedy is currently being handled by the Mercer County coroner and local law enforcement. No word yet on whether any charges will be brought against the father.
According to Nicole Howard, who was able to witness the chaotic aftermath of the shooting from her nearby Howard & Son Meatpacking business, "There are lots and lot of flashing lights and lots of crime tape. There was a single shot, and then the police came."
