50 Shades of Grey Movie Casting News UPDATE: Keira Knightley Refuses to Play Anastasia Steele, Done with 'Erotica and Bondage' Roles [POLL]

It looks like actress Keira Knightley is totally out of the running to snag the coveted role of Anastasia Steele in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James' hit erotica novel "50 Shades of Grey" - even if offered the part, Knightley insists that she would probably flat-out refuse. In a recent interview with MTV, the stunning 27-year-old Hollywood starlet made it a point to clarify that she definitely won't be taking part in the "Fifty Shades" film trilogy, even if James confronted her with an Anastasia Steele casting offer herself. Apparently one role focused on "erotica and bondage" ("A Dangerous Method") is enough for the British beauty. So that leaves it up to Alexis Bledel, Lucy Hale, and Felicity Jones to head the fan-favorite polls!

When asked about her future film plans, Knightley claims that she is up for anything... except "Fifty Shades of Grey." Knightley explains:

"It's not going to be 50 Shades of Grey. You know, I normally don't like to give a definite about anything [but] I can definitely say it will not be 50 Shades of Grey... I can't imagine why [fans would think so]! Um, I haven't even read it yet, actually. I mean, just from friends who've gotten into it, and I've gone, 'No.' I did 'A Dangerous Method.' That had a bit of all that in it. I don't think I need to do it again."

Knightley starred as Sabina Spielrein in 2011's "A Dangerous Method" - a historical film focused on Sigmund Freud (the father of psychoanalysis) and his assistant Carl Jung (the founder of analytical psychology). It was a very "serious" film which outlined the turbulent relationships between Freud, Jung, and the patient-turned-first female psychoanalyst Spielrein. Knightley's character starts out as Jung's patient who comes to him with a case of hysteria, triggered by the humiliation and sexual arousal she felt as a child due when her short-tempered father used to spank her naked. Knightley also starred as the doomed aristocrat and socialite in Leo Tolstoy's iconic 19th century tragedy "Anna Karenina" (in the recent 2012 film adaptation). To jump from such historical, prestigious roles to so-called "mommy porn" may not be the next best thing for Knightley... and "Fifty Shades" producers would probably agree.

It's a known fact that James and producers don't want to cast famous actors/actresses who are "associated" with any specific, stereotypical movie roles or genres. Knightley is probably right in saying that one film focused on "erotica and bondage" is probably enough... so fans can cross her name off the list as a potential Anastasia Steele contender.

Now that Knightley is out of the "Fifty Shades" running, which actress deserves the erotic role of Anastasia Steele?
