Psy Ending Gangnam Style? Viral Dance Hit 'Too Popular,' Ready for a New Single, Rapper says at 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve' [VIDEO]
After being viewed over a monumental one billion times on YouTube, K-pop sensation Psy has officially decided that he needs a new hit single… therefore his viral dance hit “Gangnam Style” may soon be coming to a pony-riding end. Maybe not gone for good… but the single is just too popular – Psy needs a new song to prove that “Gangnam Style” isn’t all that he’s got to offer in the music industry.
After performing “Gangnam Style” on New Year’s Eve night (Dec. 31) at the annual New York City celebration “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” 35-year-old Psy from South Korea told MTV:
"Being in Times Square on New Year's Eve is already special — it's the biggest stage in the universe — plus it's my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of 'Gangnam Style.’ I mean, what better way to do it? It's my biggest and most meaningful birthday” (Psy actually celebrated his birthday on December 31).
"The song became too popular, and so you start to have some concern about its life period," Psy continued to explain. "I'm really working hard on a new single right now, and I'm not saying ['Gangnam'] is ending on 'Dick Clark' — I still have a lot of invitations to perform it ... I'll be in Paris, and in February I got invited to perform in China, and I've still got to do promo… So let me say that in America I need a new single because 'Gangnam Style' got too popular, so I've got to write a new single."
So could Psy’s New Year’s Eve “Gangnam Style” performance alongside MC Hammer be the last time the rapper performs his YouTube dance sensation in the States? What do fans think about that? Excited for a new Psy single (or could nothing really compare to "Gangnam Style" - the most-viewed music video on the popular video-sharing website... ever)?
