X-Men stars and best friends Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart auditioned for the biggest roles to date: Being part of Taylor Swift's squad. McKellen and Stewart dramatically recited lyrics from Swift's "Bad Blood" and "Blank Space," off her newest album, 1989, in appearances on Yahoo! and NPR's Ask Me Another. McKellen also threw in a hysterical reading of "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars.

McKellen broke into "Bad Blood" while on Yahoo and read the lyrics with strict seriousness. He then recited "Uptown Funk" lyrics, amusingly repeating "funk you up" in a droll tone.

Picking up where McKellen left off, Stewart recited "Blank Space" lyrics on NPR's Ask Me Another, as part of a question. The full episode featuring Stewart will be premiered on Aug. 20.

Following the amazing performances, Stewart tweeted at TSwift, politely asking to join her squad. Swift replied with great enthusiasm, calling the pair "ULTIMATE Squad Goals" and including a collection of pictures of the two.

McKellen and Stewart rivaled the "Welcome To New York" singer as ambassadors to New York City by tweeting a series of photos of them joking around at various tourist sites like Coney Island, telephone booths and the historic Stonewall Inn last spring. They were in town performing in Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot and traveled the city wearing the show's bowler hats. McKellen, who is gay, made another big appearance in New York as a grand marshal at this year's Gay Pride Parade.

Swift's squad has been very well documented and includes stars from across industries, including the Haim sisters, Lorde, Modern Family's Sarah Hyland, model and actress Cara Delevingne, Ed Sheeran and model Karlie Kloss. While on her 1989 tour, Swift has brought up a ton of different surprise guests on stage, including Lorde, Jason Derulo, Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham, Lily Aldridge and Hailee Steinfeld. Time will tell if she elects to bring McKellen and Stewart up with her at a future show.
