This news broke on Twitter thanks to some journalists that have been following the transfer rumors (via WeAintGotNoHistory):

According to ESPN FC, the Fire filed a discovery claim on Drogba, thus obtaining the rights to the striker when it came time to write up a contract, but Montreal's bid enticed the Ivory Coast native, who would like to live in a French speaking area. So this is why the Fire get money from this deal, hence the Twitter posts.

This report goes on to say that Drogba hasn't officially singed anything but the deal would be for "an 18-month contract in excess of $3 million per year but the former Chelsea forward has not yet put pen to paper."

Now all fans want to see is Drogba going up against his former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard, who plays for NYC FC, and Steven Gerrard, formerly of Liverpool and currently on the LA Galaxy squad. It looks like BPL fans should tune into MLS games this upcoming season!
