Actress Jena Malone appears in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a new rumor claims to reveal her character's identity.

After earlier fan speculation that Malone would play Carrie Kelly, Latino-Review now reports she is in fact playing Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl or Oracle! This would be an interesting development and would confirm that the rich history of Batman is already at play in the movie.

Director Zack Snyder and star Ben Affleck go in depth on the film in a new interview in Empire Magazine.

First, Snyder confirmed that Batman will be middle-aged and a weary veteran in the movie, in contrast the relatively youthful and exuberant Superman. "We are playing him 45 or 46," he said. "He has been Batman for 20 years. All the history is there. Was there a Robin at one time? Possibly."

Affleck remarked that he wasn't completely sold on the idea when he first heard it. "Initially I thought, 'I'm older, it doesn't seem like the right sort of fit for me,'" he said. "Then Zack pitched me his concept for this older, more broken, kind of f**ked up Batman. It was something we haven't seen. We have seen that Batman is willing to cross the line to protect people. That vigilantism has been a part of his character all along, and we are tapping into that mentality when faced by something as potentially as deadly a Superman."

Snyder then went on to discuss how Superman changes Batman's worldview and forces him to take action. "We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman," he said. "'I've been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.' In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn't matter."

"He's having a crisis of conscience. 'Am I really just a vigilante who stalks the alleys of Gotham?'" the director continues. "It is rich stuff that he deals with. Ben does an amazing job."

With "vs." in the title, it would seem one of these superheroes must serve the villain role, and Snyder believes that the fans would ultimately make that judgment. "It's a point of view thing. That is why Dawn of Justice is the full title," he said. "What it does is allow us to start this conversation."
