Reese Witherspoon New Movie 'Cold' Announced: Thriller from Pacific Standard Films
Announced today, "Lionsgate has acquired Cold, an original pitch by Bill Marsilii with Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea producing through their Pacific Standard Films banner. Witherspoon also is attached to star. A source pegs the deal at mid- to high-six figures," according to the Hollywood Reporter. There aren't too many details being released about the film in and of itself, but THR says, "The plot is being kept under wraps but has been described as a dark thriller with supernatural elements." Pacific Standard Films in particular has recently released films with female leads like Gone Girl and Wild.
Witherspoon, who has recently produced and starred in the film adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's Wild, told E! News how strongly she feels about the roles she is now accepting. "The place and the position that I've had I feel a responsibility to take care of others, help tell more women's stories [and] get the word out there that women are complex, dynamic [and] interesting...We're not just one thing or another," she said
It great to see Witherspoon really taking control and showing other actresses that they can choose roles that really speak to them.
The project has a great couple of heads coming together. Yahoo! News reports, "Marsilii is currently adapting the sci-fi action comic Sebastian X at Voltage, with Gale Anne Hurd producing and Martin Campbell attached to direct. He co-wrote, with Terry Rossio, the Tony Scott-directed Deja Vu, starring Denzel Washington, which set the record for highest spec script sale ever when Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer acquired it in 2004 for $5 million."
Seeing that this thriller is right up Marsilii's alley, it seems like it might be the perfect script for him to work on. It will be interesting to see who else will hop on board seeing as the film will only be in the very first stages of development!
