FX has announced the premiere date to to the follow-up new drama from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Audiences hold get ready in September for Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (SOA's Gemma Teller), Matthew Rhys (The Americans) in the medieval period piece, The Bastard Executioner.

As we previously mentioned,The Bastard Executioner follows a warrior knight, Wilkin Brattle (Lee Jones) in King Edward III's court. The loyal knight has been broken by the ravages of war and vows to leave the way of the sword. When violence strikes again, the retired knight is forced to pick up his sword again.

We mentioned before, Sagal will play Annora of the Alders, who offers predictions, cures, and potions. Moyer is Milus Corbett, a former marshal in the army, who now serves as his own chamberlain, chancellor and justiciar. Matthew Rhys will also have the guest-starring role of Gruffudd y Blaidd, a smart, fearless and noble blood leader of the Welsh rebels. Sutter himself will play the Dark Mute in the 10-episode arc. Singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran will act in the penultimate episode and has a song recorded as well.

According to Deadline, the first season of The Bastard Executioner will debut at the 10 pm time slot on September 15. The highly anticipated pilot will be a two-hour premiere. A month later, American Horror Story: Hotel and the sophomore season of Fargo will premiere in October.

As Yahoo! TV states, during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Sutter described the tone, its Shakespearean (NOT Game of Thrones) setting, and graphic violence of the show, “Yes, it’s a medieval setting, and the laws in terms of punishment were brutal and heinous. That’s a reality of the world. And there are ways to portray that violence that don’t make it openly gratuitous. Anything that happens — be it a battle sequence, or an execution, or a torture scene — comes out of story. And it always has some ramification.”

As we mentioned before, Sutter previously wanted a True Blood crossover on the final season of SOA. Though Moyer and Anna Paquin were busy at the time, life comes full circle as The Caller actor eventually found himself working with the Southpaw screenwriter.

The Bastard Executioner is premiere on FX sometime in the fall.
