5 Thoughts On Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris In HBO's 'Westworld' Tease Trailer!

HBO has released a promo for their upcoming TV remake of the late sci-fi author Michael Crichton's cult classic, Westworld. From Person of Interest creator Jonathan Nolan, sci-fi meets the old frontier with Anthony Hopkins, Jeffry Wright, and Evan Rachel Woods in the first tease trailer.

As we previously mentioned, the 1970s western/thriller centered around an amusement park and its guests. A precursor to Jurassic Park, as writer/director, Crichton imagined three worlds - the West World, Medieval World, and Roman World - inhabited by human-like androids. Rebelling against their programming, the robots run amok and started attacking the tourists in the climatic final act.

Check out our 5 thoughts on the teaser trailer of Westworld here:

5) He Knows His Science

You can tell the Memento screenwriter is fascinated with science fact and artificial intelligence through his works. In Person of Interest, should scientists be thinking of morality when they create new life, especially with The Machine and Samaritan at war with each other? In Interstellar, Nolan wrote specifically the parts that included Dr. Doyle (Wes Bentley) and the A.I. TARS (Bill Irwin).

4) A Different Take

If you have seen the original, The Andromeda Strain novelist wrote and directed the first two acts with campy and slapstick-humored material, as if he wanted to make a comedy. The third act is when the robots run amok and start killing attendees. It's interesting to see how the show takes a different and darker route, exploring its themes though a serialized format.

3) The Skull

The 1970 cult classic also had a major influence on James Cameron's Terminator. The imagery of a robotic face underneath human skin stays in your mind. The teaser shows footage of a robot being made in white wax and we see a frightening skull-face. What I like is that Nolan isn't straying away from its original source material and pays homage to certain aspects.

2) Badass Chicks

Who else is a huge fan of Person of Interest, especially Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and Root (Amy Acker)? Most of the teaser is told from the female perspective of Delores (Evan Rachel Wood), which is different from male-centric westerns. We previously mentioned, an official still was released featuring actress Ingrid Bolso Berda as her character, Armistice. Dressed up in her cowboy outfit. Armistice has facial scarring and tattoos on the side her face. The women are going to be such badasses on this show!

1) The Big Bad

Because of their similar outfits, we can only assume Ed Harris' The Man In Black re-envisions the Gunslinger role, made famous by Yul Brynner (The Ten Commandments). If you've seen the original, you have to admit Brynner was in whole different movie. The Gunslinger was the unstoppable slasher who chased after the protagonist throughout the entire park. I cannot wait to see how two tough guys take on the same role!

Westworld will premiere on HBO sometime in 2016.
