Best Basketball Player in the World? NBA Star Kevin Durant Names Himself!

Despite being out for a full NBA season due to his injured right foot, basketball star Kevin Durant still believes that he's the "best player in the world." According to Yahoo Sports and The Bleacher Report, in an interview late last week, while in Spain promoting his new Nike KD VIII basketball shoes, Kevin Durant called himself "the best [basketball player] in the world.

The basketball player who at one point in time had become a meme ("You the real MVP") is now claiming to be the best player in the world. Now, there are plenty of contenders in that category who actually fit it a bit better. There's no denying KD's shooting skills, but there's more to being the best player in the league, let alone the world, than shooting. Plus, he's never been able to carry his team through the NBA Finals or even the playoffs.

More than a year ago, Kevin Durant had the potential to be the "best player" in the NBA, considering the fact that he was unstoppable, but now that statement just sounds unfeasible. Especially with Stephen Curry's improving shooting skills and LeBron James' undeniable talent.

Foot injuries have a tendency of being incessant, especially for players as tall as Durant (Yao Ming is a perfect example for this situation). Kevin Durant may have, at one point in time, been one of the best players in the league, but considering the fact that he's been resting and recovering from his foot injury, he's bound to be rusty. Thus, he can't be compared to the real contenders for the best player in the world.

"I think we have a really good team," Durant said during an event in Madrid promoting the new edition of his Nike signature sneaker. "We have to come together and play as one, and that's harder than people realize. But we're ready to take on the challenge. We're under the radar, exactly where we want to be, and looking forward to having a good season. And yes, I'm still the best player in the world."
