Johnny Depp has seemingly moved so far away from his character actor days that it's almost laughable, but film fans definitely miss his talents that are now wasted on eccentric roles and strange career choices. Fortunately, Black Mass hits theaters this weekend. This new movie from director Scott Cooper and costarring Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson and many more has been hailed as Depp's return to form. His portrayal of infamous mobster James "Whitey" Bulger is a performance that is sure to garner plenty of critical attention, and from what we've learned from the films trailers and early reviews, this is a must-see movie this weekend. The following "reasons" to see this film are purely observations made from watching trailers, reading interviews and hearing reviews of the movie. We hope this helps you make a decision on a movie to see this weekend, because there are plenty, but this should be the most entertaining - for the following reasons!

The Cast!

Aside from Depp, Black Mass boasts some of the best names in the business for an ensemble performance. We mentioned Cumberbatch, Edgerton and Johnson, but other stars include Jesse Plemons, Adam Scott, Corey Stoll, Kevin Bacon, Juno Temple, Peter Sarsgaard and many more talents that are sure to create one of the best-acted movies of the year.

The Composer!

Junkie XL had an impressive career as a DJ, producer and remix artist, but his foray into film composing has been nothing less than amazing. He created the soundscape for another 2015 hit, Mad Max: Fury Road, and knows how to capture the tension and explosiveness of scenes. Read our recent interview with the composer right here!

The Reviews!

Rotten Tomatoes is currently showing a high rating for the movie and I cannot spot a negative review from credible film websites and/or blogs. According to the majority of reviews, Depp is miraculous and the cast adds even more to the overall story.

The Trailers!

Honestly, just watch these trailers:

JOHNNY DEPP, you guys!

"He's back" is the general consensus of film critics and fans alike in regards to early screenings of the film. Depp was once considered a top character actor, and it looks like Black Mass has slotted him back into the category this year. Could this lead to an Academy Award nomination? We'll have to wait and see.
