John Mayer Awkward Date With New Girl - What Did Katy Perry Have to do With it?

John Mayer might have moved on from his romance with pop princess Katy Perry, but it seems like he is reminded of the star everywhere he goes. Whether it's on a billboard, TV commercial, the radio, or most recently on a date. Nope -- the singer didn't go on a date with his former flame, but he did run into what could have been an awkward situation. It turns out that when he brought a new girl out for a date at E.P. & L.P. in West Hollywood, one of the fellow patrons was actually wearing a Katy Perry T-shirt.

However, according to Us Weekly, Mayer didn't seem to notice the T-shirt of the fan. Not that we think the "Who Says" singer would have minded too much.

A source also spoke out to Us Weekly about the John and his rumored new flame, saying, "They were definitely on a date. They were sitting really close to each other intensely talking and, at one point, they were holding hands."

The site is reporting that the couple was downing water and whiskey while nestled in a corner of the rooftop bar.

Perry and Mayer's relationship has been hard to gauge over the last couple of months, as we previously reported that they got back together briefly in the winter after Perry's Super Bowl Half Time show, but that they split a couple weeks later.

Perez Hilton called the relationship more a convenience for Perry which is the reason that her and Mayer split.

"It's always on and off. She's young and doesn't want to be too tied down again," a source explained. "It's more of a relationship of convenience and it isn't always so black and white."
