'Empire' Season 2 Episode 2 Spoilers: Are Trai Byers/Terrence Howard "Haunted" Vernon's Death?

Season 2 of Empire makes it way back on Fox. In tonight's Episode 2, are Luscious Lyon (Terrence Howard), Andre Lyon (Trai Byers), and Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlin Doubleday), all "haunted" by Vernon Turner (Malik Yoba)'s death?

During the first season finale, Vernon was murdered by Andre and his pregnant wife, Rhonda (Doubleday). Though Jamal has earned the company, Anika (Grace Gealey) has setup a hostile takeover against him. From beyond the grave, Vernon (Malik Yoba) got his revenge for Bunky. Arrested on murder charges, Luscious was last seen in a prison cell, thinking his own wife and kids set him up.

In our recent recap, Luscious had to take charge inside the prison walls as Frank Gathers (Chris Rock) treated to kill Cookie. Though his mother and two brothers planned the hostile takeover against him, Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) gained the upper hand when Mimi Whiteman (Marisa Tomei) switched sides in his favor. As his sibling rivalry with Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Gray) intensifies, Jamal continues to turn into his father and kicks his entire family out of his household.

In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Ilene Chaiken reveals what's coming up next for Andre, who's having nightmares since he buried the body with his wife, "[Vernon's death] has a very explicit consequence in the early part of the season that drives a lot of story. We don't just drop it. And it plays a big, big role in his life. It also plays a role in continuing to motivate Andre's search for faith and morality."

Chaiken adds the story arc between Cookie and Jamal won't be getting any easier, "That's a big story for us - and one we really care about. As big as the show is, as soapy as some people might find it, that [arc] is very real to us. And it breaks our hearts to make those two characters estranged. But of course, there's a path back for them, and it's a story we tell over the course of the season - and one we relish telling."
