Mark Hamill to Reprise Luke Skywalker Role in New Star Wars Films?
File under "Awww Yeah!" Mark Hamill, The protagonist of the original trilogy of Star Wars films is in talks with Lucasfilm to once again play Luke Skywalker in the planned new trilogy of films.
Talks surrounding the new trilogy have been heating up since Disney purchased Lucasfilm in December for 4 billion dollars and announced their plans to make new Star Wars movies. Since then, a number of people have signed on to the film including director J.J. Abrams.
Hamill is waiting to talk to head writer Michael Arndt and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about the possibility of being in the latest installments of the storied franchise, according to Entertainment Weekly. Hamill wants to play Skywalker again, but this time as a mentor to the younger characters- which Hamill assumes will be Skywalker's or other characters children- similar to Sir Alec Guiness' Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars films.
Hamill released a statement claiming that Lucas himself asked the actor if he wanted to play Luke Skywalker again, saying that if Hamill declined they "wouldn't cast another actor in our parts- they would write us out."
He went on to say that he hasn't "signed any contracts" and that if he were to sign on he would like "to go back to the way [the original trilogy] was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and humorous- in my opinion anyway."
Hamill also expressed desires to "bring the whole gang back" meaning Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams might reprise their roles as Princess Leia, Han Solo and Lando Calrissian , respectively.
Let's just hope-if Hamill is signed on as Luke- that he's less whiny this time around. Jeebus, that Jedi could nag.
