Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, "Built on a Lie," Louisa Jepson: According to New Tell-All The Pop Star Pairing Was to Build One Direction Fame, Was Everything Staged?

There might be a ton of seemingly endless drama around the relationship of Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, but according to a new tell-all Styles biography by Louisa Jepson, the whole thing was "built on a lie." According to Jepson, the management team behind One Direction "went to great lengths to put the two together because she's such a huge star" because "Anytime Taylor starts dating a new guy she gets a flurry of media attention, and her break-ups receive even more." Well, yes, but what does this mean in regards to the Styles-inspired Swift song "I Knew You Were Trouble" or her Grammy Awards diss? Was it all staged?

It is highly probable that the relationship could have been set up for publicity reasons. This happens a lot in the entertainment industry and it makes a ton of sense. A boy band like One Direction is just starting to get popular so why not cut some corners and mix in an already hugely successful country singer who turned into one of the biggest pop stars? It adds up even though these are just rumors. As a result of dating Swift, the 19-year-old Styles is easily the most popular 1D member. It is strange that the stars only dated for a few weeks and that the melodramatic aftermath is kind of deliberate. During the 2012 Grammy Awards earlier this month, the 23-year-old songstress performed her hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," and added a British accent to her spoken-word bridge, calling out Styles. It would appear that she was torn up from the break up and was taking it out on Harry, but perhaps she was coached into doing so. Even her latest song, "I Knew You Were Trouble," is about the One Direction singer. Again, it looks like she was hurt enough to write a whole song about the ordeal, but it could be argued that it was all part of the plan.

All of this attention is good for both parties. "I Knew You Were Trouble" is a hit and One Direction keeps growing in popularity. This story definitely makes sense. But we all believed it to be sincere before this news came out, so who's to say what actually happened. Each side of the story is believable and equally tangible. What do you think? Was the whole "Haylor" phenomenon a hoax or was it real? If it was fake, how does it make you feel? Betrayed? Blindsided? Did you see it coming?
