For years celebrities have been known to undergo some pretty crazy stuff in preparation for a film. Between losing mass amounts of weight to completely transforming their appearances, it's no wonder some of these roles end up winning them an Oscar. But then again, not all of them are willing to do all of the gross stuff that Leonardo Dicaprio did for his new movie The Revenant. We'll just say that Dicaprio went as far as getting cozy with an animal carcass for this one!

According to Vanity Fair, Dicaprio's latest film assisted him in getting to do all kinds of gross and uncomfortable stuff. Not only did he spend nine months enduring the in frigid cold temperatures of Canada and Argentina during filming, but he also reportedly slept in an animal carcass and ate raw bison.

Maybe the cold assisted in the new gnarley beard that he's been seen rocking? Who knows.

On regards to the uncomfortable grossness that he endured for the film, Dicaprio told Yahoo in a recent interview:

"I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I've ever had to do. Whether it's going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly."

Although he spared us all the details of what exactly it was that he consumed on set. He did go on to say, "I certainly don't eat raw bison liver on a regular basis."

Supposedly, Dicaprio was not alone. The filming was said to be hell for everyone involved. In fact a few actors were even submerged in freezing cold water and one was even dragged naked across the freezing cold ground in a 200 person battle scene.

Celebrities may be known to do a few crazy things in the name of perfecting a film role, but we can only hope that all of the gross and uncomfortable stuff that Dicaprio went through for his role in The Reveant ends up landing him an Oscar!

We'll all get the opportunity to see this gem when it hits theaters on Dec. 25, 2015!
