WWE Rumors: The Rock Out of Extreme Rules PPV, Defending Champ Set to Face John Cena for Wrestlemania 29 Main Event
With just over a month left to go before wrestling's big event, WrestleMania, rumors are running rampant about possible matches, surprises, and celebrity guests. As if wrestling's Super Bowl couldn't get any bigger, "WrestleMania 29" is taking place April 7 in East Rutherford, NJ just outside New York City and the Rock has returned to face John Cena.
The main event has officially been made, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson returning from Hollywood to defend his championship against arguably wrestling's most popular good guy, John Cena. However, after their WrestleMania encounter, how long will The Rock stay with WWE? According to some reports, not long.
F4WOnline.com is reporting that The Rock is no longer being advertised for the WWE's "Extreme Rules" pay-per-view that takes place the month after WrestleMania 29. The Rock will reportedly be in Europe shooting his new movie "Hercules."
This may be a strong hint as to the outcome of the Cena, Rock match. It is tough to imagine the WWE allowing The Rock to hold onto the WWE Championship if he will be spending most of his time in Europe filming a movie. However, you never know with the WWE.
"WrestleMania 29" will be The Rock and John Cena's second straight WrestleMania match, but despite some fans displeasure with the repeat, it will likely do big business for the WWE. The Rock told IGN recently that a big reason why he returned to wrestling from Hollywood was because of the chance to work with Cena.
"The question was that if I was going to go back in the WWE, how could I go back and make the most impact? With who I can headline WrestleMania in that company and make the most impact? And the bottom line is that it continues to be John Cena. Just in terms of, and we'll use a Hollywood term here, box office appeal. Universal appeal. Athletic pairing. So there are a lot of reasons."
So Hollywood will have to wait for The Rock to face John Cena April 7 at Wrestlemania 29 before getting their action hero back. However, with "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Fast & Furious 6" due out this year, it won't be long before Dwayne Johnson is back on the big screen.
