Katie Holmes: The New Normal and Life After Tom Cruise in an Abnormal Business

Life after Tom Cruise for actress Katie Holmes is quite normal and she told Ocean Drive magazine, "I have a very normal life, and I happen to work in an industry that is abnormal." Holmes lives in New York City and admits to taking the trains and even cabs, "Its just about getting from here to there, and I don't care how I do it. I have to get there."

The Touched With Fire star has expanded her roles since divorcing Cruise and somehow, being a mother to Suri, daughter and younger sibling seem to have a new meaning and has given her confidence. In her film, The Gift, she went topless for the role. She has also embraced her directorial debut in All We Had and says, "I don't shy away from risks. I'm just interested in a lot of different things. I don't even think of it as a risk; I think of it as something exciting and new. As I've grown up, I think that the harder you work the more successful you are. From what I've seen, the people at the top, they're constantly working and constantly surrounding themselves with other successful, like minded creative people."

Katie credits her family upbringing and Ohio roots when it comes to accomplishments. "I'm fortunate because I'm the baby of five, and my brothers and sisters have all achieved a lot in their lives - and my parents as well." Like her father, she ran a marathon at the age of 28 and says he gave her the "confidence growing up." And added, "We were raised [with the attitude], whatever you want, you can do it, no problem, just do it."

What's next for the Dawson's Creek star? Miami's Art Basel this week and her recurring role on the Showtime series Ray Donovan too. Hollywood Life reports that "she'll also reprise her role as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the upcoming miniseries, The Kennedys - After Camelot." Perhaps life after divorce isn't bad after all!
