It is official! General Hospital star Jason Thompson is headed to The Young & The Restless. Yes my friends, Dr. Drake will soon be leaving Port Charles and the actor will be turning up in Genoa City as Billy Abbott.

The shocking, yet exciting, news that Thompson will be taking over the role recently vacated by Burgess Jenkins, was confirmed by Y&R's executive producer Jill Farren Phelps. As you may or may not know, Phelps was previously an executive producer over at GH. Thompson is the second former GH star that she is brought on board since she became EP on the CBS soap. Steve Burton, ex-Jason Morgan GH, plays the role of Dylan McAvoy.

Jason Thompsons' days at General Hospital are over. He filmed his last scenes for the ABC soap the week before Thanksgiving. Although his departure has been a sad fact for months, the news of his new job is quite the surprise. He is a very talented actor, so him getting a new job is not a surprise. However, the fact that he has chosen to appear on another soap opera is really surprising. Although fans of his will certainly be glad to see him on their TVs, even if he is not playing Dr. Patrick Drake.

It will be interesting to see how Y&R fans react to Thompsons portrayal of Billy Abbott, a very beloved character on the show. Interestingly enough, Billy Miller who now plays Jason Morgan on GH used to pay the role of Billy Abbott on Y&R; just further proof that the soap industry is a very small world.

Here's hoping the fans give one of my favorite actors a chance. Heck I just might have to tune back in to the CBS soap just to see how it all goes down.
