Kpop Band Oh My Girl Detained at Los Angeles on Suspicion of Being Sex Workers?

The popular Kpop band, Oh My Girl's eight members say that they were held at Los Angeles Airport by officials for 15 long hours on suspicion of being sex workers.

Earlier this year, teaser images of the eight members were released as well as the concept behind WM to make a girl's band group. According to Koreaboo, the group released their first single, "Cupid," on April 20, 2015 and made their showcase on the very same day. Koreaboo also reported that on Oct. 2015, Oh My Girl's comeback track, "Closer," was released and the group was highly praised for their astounding visual effects.

Oh My Girl flew all from Seoul to Los Angeles to shoot an album cover for their album. But the eight girls and their staff had been forced to fly back home after airport officials allegedly suspected all of them of being sex workers. According to Los Angeles Times, the eight members, who are aged 16 to 21, said in an official statement that due to the airport officials at Los Angeles International Airport, they were not allowed to enter in the country as they all were considered to be prostitutes. The airport officials were suspicious of the number of accessories and clothing the band members were wearing.

"As young women, they were mistaken as 'working women', which has recently been a big issue in the US," the band's management company said in a press statement.

The spokesman from WM Entertainment also said that the main problem that may come in their way is their age factor and because of that, they all were mistaken as sex workers. According to International Business Times, the band's record company is going to seek legal advice in America to check and confirm whether the band's detention at the airport was illegal.

On the other hand, the US Customs and Border Protection said that the respective agency could not confirm or deny Oh My Girl's claims.

"We are discussing what to do with the disrupted filming," the representative further added.
