Serena Williams continues to excel at everything that she puts her mind to and it does not go unnoticed. This year, Sports Illustrated crowned her Sportsperson of the year. Which seems appropriate between winning 21 Grand Slam title events and her dominance in 2015.

It was a decisive decision for the Sports Illustrated staff to choose her, as reported by the publication itself.

2015 has been one of the best years in Williams' career. She has been able to win three Grand Slam titles in one year, making it a total of 21. She defeated her sister Venus Williams, at the U.S. Open and managed to sustain a No. 1 ranking despite her numerous physical injuries for the fifth time in her career, according to E Online.

"Serena has made a very strong case as not only the greatest tennis player of her generation but of all time, and after the string of performances she put together in 2015, she is on go the most dominant athletes playing today," Sports Illustrated Group Editor Paul Fichtenbaum said in a statement.

Williams expressed her gratitude for being titled the sportsperson of 2015 on Instagram by stating 2015 has been one of the best years for her and she couldn't have done any of it without her team.

Not many people are happy with Williams' title as the Sportsperson of the year, according to the LA Times. "They wanted a horse. To be fair, American Pharoah is not just any horse. He is horse racing's first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. And he won the magazine's readers poll for the award," according to the publication.

The Times further reports that Sports Illustrated sportsperson of the year award goes to an athlete or team that embodies sportsmanship and achievement. A horse is not capable of displaying sportsmanship but that did not stop many from voice their opinions on Williams' title.

What are your thoughts, do you think Williams' was the perfect choice?
