It's been a sad number of months for former President Jimmy Carter. Just a couple of weeks after announcing that he, Jimmy, is cancer-free, Carter's 28-year-old grandson, Jeremy Carter, has reportedly died from unclear causes.

People magazine confirms the news, noting that Jimmy Carter announced the sudden death while teaching Sunday School in Georgia.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the former President's decision to continue teaching school was "indicative of his character." The publication adds, "the past few months have been a very emotional time for this church. Therer have been moments of great joy, of sadness, of grief. The church has done all it can to lift the Carters up during this difficult time."

Reports note that the 28-year-old was feeling ill on Saturday. He then lay down to take a nap. When his mother, Annette Carter, came to check on him, she had discovered that his heart stopped beating.

Carter reportedly told the congregation, despite the death of his grandson, that they should all "be filled with a sense of joy and thanksgiving."

After news broke, several people shared their condolences on Twitter:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Carter family as a result of this difficult loss.
