Stephen Colbert ‘Report’ Character Donald Trump with $10B? ‘Late Show’ Admires GOP Frontrunner

Former Colbert Report character, and current Late Show host, Stephen Colbert has surely had his fun mocking Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, but there's one thing he appears to find appealing: the billionaire's "populism."

During Sunday's Face the Nation, Colbert likened Trump to that of his Comedy Central character – "with $10 billion."

He further admitted to the CBS series that the GOP frontrunner is part of the reason he can't do his Stephen Colbert character anymore. "...he's doing it better than I ever could, because he's willing to drink his own Kool-Aid and manufacture and distribute it because he's got all the cash.

Noting that Trump has a "$10 billion mouth," the Late Show host claimed that he respects Trump's ability to know his audience, specifically saying that if one hopes to win the election, they must first get the people.

"There's a populism to Trump that I find very appealing," he claims. "And it's only this, is that the party elders would like him to go away but the people have decided that he is not going to."

Despite the opinions from those within "the machine," as Colbert puts it, the people have apparently spoken, and Trump is here to stay.

The comedian's words are evidently true, as during the last GOP debate, the final one, several candidates went after Trump's rhetoric and views on numerous topics, including immigration and Syrian refugees. Fellow GOP hopeful Jeb Bush warned Trump, noting that he cannot insult his way to the top of the election.

Unfortunately for Bush, and the Republican Party, it looks like Trump is doing just that.
