Viacom Announces that VH1 Soul Will Become BET Soul to Bring You More of the Music You Want!
BET has been the number 1 destination for all things black entertainment, but now the network is getting a facelift. Viacom announced that BET will take over the VH1 Soul Network under the new name of BET Soul. This is part of the overall "fans-first" rebranding effort to bring the audience more of the music you want!
This new channel could be perfect for BET, home of 106th & Park and the Soul Train Awards, to expand their content and existing influence on black pop culture. In an official announcement from Viacom Media Networks, the 24-hour music video channel once known as VH1 Soul will become BET Soul, effective December 28.
BET News tweeted the "big switch" announcement.
A rep for the 36-year-old network said, "BET Networks is thrilled to infuse more music content within its brand providing viewers with more access to their favorite artists through exclusive content and essentially super-serving them with the ultimate soul experience."
The new channel, BET Soul, will be available across all major cable distributors including AT&T U-verse, Cablevision, Cox, Charter, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Bright House and Verizon FiOS.
What about VH1 Soul fans? No worries, Viacom owns both networks and mentioned in the statement that the goal is to add value to both BET and VH1 networks. The rebranded channel will likely appeal to the existing VH1 Soul audience while expanding its appeal to BET viewers as well.
BET representatives mentioned that the new channel will "bring you closer to the artists you love with exclusive content you won't get anywhere else." It's unclear exactly what kind of content will be launched on the channel but The Shaderoom had some speculations on possibilities. Perhaps BET will take a page from TeenNick's The Splat block and air classic music videos, BET Uncut, or Rap City: Tha Basement.
