5 Reasons David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson's Mulder & Scully The X-Files Revival In 2016 Rules

Back by popular demand, Fox is just a new year away from the upcoming revival of The X-Files. This is the prefect opportunity to check out why agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) will dominate 2016.

As we previously mentioned,13 years have passed since FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were on the TV screen solving weird and supernatural cases. The reboot of Fox's popular sci-fi series continues with an all-new 6 episode arc. Not only are the two leads back to reprise their iconic roles, creator Chris Carter will takeover as showrunner once again for the franchise that launched his and many other careers.

Check out out 5 why The X-Files revival matters so much in 2016:

5) This isn't the same Mulder and Scully!

As we previously mentioned, Fox and Dana have officially broken up since we last saw them on the big screen sequel, I Want To Believe. This isn't the "will they or won't they sleep with each other" scenario that fans became invested in. This about growth in their relationship and as characters. Fans will be asking themselves, "Can they work it out?"

4) Some Friendly Faces Are Coming Back!

We mentioned beforehand, Mitch Pileggi, the sexiest man alive, is back as Walter Skinner, as is Annabeth Gish's Monica Reyes. You know there cannot be an X-Files without The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) lurking around. Will the Lone Gunmen (Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund) return in a flashback, since they died in the final ninth season?

3) The Monsters Keep On Coming!

The X-Files had a formula that worked with each passing season. From the first look's behind-the-scenes footage, the six-arc miniseries has been divided between "mythology" episodes and "Monsters of the week," standalone episodes. The first and sixth episode of the revival, which is entitled My Struggle, will deal with the alien conspiracy. While the middle four will feature supernatural creatures that go bump in the night. How does the saying go, if it ain't broken, don't even attempt to fix it.

2) The Music!

How many times have you hummed, or maybe even whistled The X-Files theme? Composer Mark Snow is back to creep out audiences and getting the feels going again as he pulls at the heart strings. Remember the score when Mulder sat in church, asking for forgiveness, praying to God that his sister Samantha will come back. No, I'm not crying; you're crying!

1) The Chemistry Is Still There!

TV shows wouldn't last if it wasn't for great casting. How many years have we watched Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell break in and out of jail in Prison Break? How many seasons did we watch Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay on White Collar? Do I even need to mention Lost? The chemistry between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson is what made The X-Files; and that's not something that goes away anytime soon.

The X-Files returns with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, January 24, 2016, following the NFC Championship Game. The event continues Monday, January 25, 2016 (8pm).
