A 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the east coast of the Philippines today, August 31, 2012. Twitter users poured their concern for the island and the people who are bracing themselves for potential aftershocks. One 54-year-old woman was killed after her house collapsed on her, however her young grandson survived with some injuries.
Here are some heartfelt reactions on Twitter for the victims of the earthquake.
@annecurtissmith wrote, "Read about the earthquake.... Hope everyone is safe.."
"After the rainstorms and the floods, a high intensity earthquake suddenly happens? :( #GodblessthePhilippines," expressed @maxenemagalona.
@Just8604 wrote, "Phillipine got earthquake and Japan just had tsunami alert cause offshore from there, be safe everyone ;___;"
The tsunami alert in Philippines has been cancelled after tiny waves came on the shore.
Another user was asking people to respond by giving donations to help the after effects of the natural disasters. "My homeland was hit by a 7.6 earthquake while already experiencing flooding. Please help! TEXT "FLOODS" to 90999 to donate $5 to @RedCross," @apl_de tweeted.
On a lighter note, another user for @FinePickUpLine offered a silly pickup line, "Was that an earthquake, or did you just rock my world? #bestpickuplines."
