Is this the sweetest video ever? Maroon 5 have crashed a bunch of LA weddings for the video for their new single "Sugar", with Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin on hand to document it. Just try not smile too hard when watching the video. It sees the band arriving at random weddings in the LA area on December 16, 2014, surprising and delighting the brides, grooms and all of their family and friends with a performance of "Sugar", the third single from the band's V album from last year. But was it all a surprise, or a set up? Find out below.

At the start of the clip Levine announces: "We're gonna drive across L.A. and hit every wedding we possibly can. It's gonna be awesome."

It sure was: just watch some of the amazing reactions from the delighted couples as the band emerge from behind a raised curtain playing... it's pretty sweet to watch them as they realize that freakin' Maroon 5 are playing their wedding. Check it out:

But it wasn't all quite so random. As Entertainment Tonight report, Maroon 5's rep told them that "Only the grooms knew in each case."

The rep then told ET that "However they disclosed it to their bride and the wedding party, we're not sure, but they all wanted it to be as equally a surprise as we did. They had stages set up for their actual wedding band already. All we did was some simple continuity changes to match each one as best we could."

As Rolling Stone point out, in the press release for the video (really, who does that?), Levine called it "an out of body experience."

He continued, saying "I had no idea I would be affected by the overwhelming reactions we received from the couples and guests. Being able to create an unforgettable experience for several people was the highlight of it all."

Rolling Stone add that director Dobbin has been buds with the band for over a decade and that the collaboration had been a long time coming. They quote the director as saying "It was one of the great experiences of my career making the 'Sugar' video with Adam and the boys. Literally lightning in a bottle."

Well. Not "literally", Dave, but good job nonetheless.

To see the video on TV, it hits VH1 Top 20 Countdown on Saturday Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. It's just a shame that no one screams out "MA, THE MEATLOAF" at any point, right?
