As the success of his Broadway musical, Hamilton, continues, Lin-Manuel Miranda has turned into a superstar who's been involved in several viral videos with celebrities, including President Barack Obama -- and Comedy Central wants in, too! In a new Inside Amy Schumer clip, the comedienne tries to pitch him another historic musical, based on Betsy Ross and stumbles all the way through!
In the recently released sketch, Miranda walks in on Schumer rehearsing something with a group of people, thinking he's getting invited to be on Inside Amy Schumer, but the comedienne admits she was high when she proposed that to him via Twitter DM. As he calls an Über, Schumer smugly reveals she decided she can also write and star in a hip-hop historic musical, and proceeds a horrible pitch while Miranda stares in exasperation while waiting for his ride.
After saying she wanted to do a musical about "Bethenny Ross" (Miranda quickly corrects her telling her she's confusing the flag maker to Real Housewife of New York Bethenny Frankel), Schumer goes on to rip off Hamilton, including a reference to the show's song, "My Shot," which is when Miranda decides to leave --- but it turns out that was the birth of the entire sketch.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the idea to have Miranda over for a Hamilton parody came from Schumer's sister and producer, Kim Caramele, who's obsessed with the Broadway smash and will listen to the soundtrack "at any, sometimes inappropriate time," and at one point, she started singing that she was "not throwing away my mop," a play on the iconic song. From there, the idea was born --- and things came to fruition when Miranda signed up for a cameo!
"He said yes and I thought he was kidding," said Caramele. "He couldn't have been nicer and more game. He has so few hours free! I was so grateful he was there."
The sketch also features Caramele and Questlove on drums. Inside Amy Schumer will return to Comedy Central on April 21.
