After making a name for himself in Broadway with roles in musicals like Guys and Dolls and Jersey Boys, Tituss Burgess broke to superstardom last year, when he played the male lead in the Netflix quirky sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Days before season 2 premieres, show creator Tina Fey leaves it clear who's the boss -- as she and the "Peeno Noir" singer do a Broadway duet!

According to Slate, Burgess and Fey took the stage last Monday at the MISCAST gala in New York, and Fey surprised the world by showing some solid singing chops when facing off Buress.

The two stars performed "You're Nothing Without Me," a song from the 1989 Tony Award-winning musical City of Angels, in which a writer and his creation battle, with the former saying the character is nothing without them. The duet between Fey and Burgess is too accurate, as Fey's one of the geniuses behind Kimmy Schmidt and Burgess plays the most flamboyant of the cast members. He even earned an Emmy nod for his performance.

As E! Online reports, the Miscast Gala is an annual event from the MCC Theater, in which actors and actresses get to perform songs from musicals they'd never be cast in. Their performance was a surprise and understandably a welcome one.

It was previously reported that Fey is now writing a musical for another beloved property of her creation: the 2004 cult film Mean Girls.

While Fey had a minor role in the first season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (as a very incompetent lawyer defending the title character), the show belongs to Buress and star Ellie Kemper, in a story that follows a woman who spent half her life inside a bunker after a doomsday prophet locked her and other women up. When Netflix bought the show, it came with a two-order season. It was also renewed for a third one a few weeks back.

The second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be available on Netflix on April 15.
