This year, legendary and often controversial director Woody Allen is opening the Cannes Film Festival for a record third time, bringing his newest film, a romantic comedy called Café Society. The first trailer for the movie has just been released, and in it Jesse Eisenberg channels the iconic filmmaker -- and he's got regular co-star Kristen Stewart joining him in the period film!

It seems like, these days, Allen does some of his best work when he's thinking outside of his own time. Café Society's a period piece, this time set in 1930s Hollywood, where a young man (Eisenberg) reaches Tinsel Town to live with his big-shot uncle, played by Steve Carell.

Of course, that means fast dialogue, pretty dames and a lot of name-dropping of Hollywood's finest.

The film's trailer oozes some of the casual magic of Woody's best, from his recent hit Midnight in Paris to other great period movies like The Purple Rose of Cairo. It's also got one of the most incredible casts of any Allen movie: aside from Eisenberg, Stewart and Carell, other big names include Blake Lively, Anna Camp, Corey Stoll and Parker Posey.

Along with the first trailer for the film, producing company Mars Films has also released its first poster.

Allen's films can be a little hit-and-miss with the critics, probably in part because he releases at least one film a year. His last big hit was Midnight in Paris, but his Blue Jasmine also received acclaimed and its star, Cate Blanchett, won an Academy Award for her leading role in it.

Allen's last two films, Magic in the Moonlight and Irrational Man, both starring Emma Stone, have received lackluster reviews. If this is anything like his best past work, with this kind of cast, it doesn't seem too extreme to get very excited over the movie's prospects.

Café Society will be released in the USA on Aug. 12.
