Derby the dog is a disabled canine that was born with deformed front legs, leaving him disabled with little mobility. He is used to getting around with a wheeled cart like many disabled animals, but this week he was able to run freely for the first time in his life. This is all thanks to a company called 3D Systems, which fashioned special prosthetic legs for Derby, with miraculous, feel good results! "I kept looking at his photo, and hearing his story, and I cried literally every time," explained Tara Anderson, a product manager at #D Systems. "I had to try and help this dog."
And that's exactly what Tara and her company did. After fitting Derby with a wheeled cart, they figured they could keep going to help him become even more versatile despite his handicap. From there, the design for his new prosthetics were created and tested - with really great results.
After being born with deformed legs, causing him to struggle to move like a regular dog, Derby can now run!

"When I saw him sprinting, it was amazing," Derby's adoptive owner, Dom Portanova, said with excitement. "I couldn't believe it! He runs with Sherry and myself every day, at least 2-3 miles. He runs faster than both of us, he never really tires out [and] he's just so happy to [run]."
