57-year-old Kevin Doyle isn't your regular cosplay enthusiast. The photographer and illustrator lost his wife, Eileen, back in 2012 to pancreatic cancer and this year he raised money for a children's cancer charity he started and named after his wife in a pretty unique way: he trekked to the 2015 San Diego Comic-con International events dressed as a Stormtrooper from Star Wars. Doyle walked from Minnesota to the California city, leaving around 645 miles in his tracks. Read more on this heartwarming story below.

According to a great write-up over on the L.A. Times (via Gamma Squad), Eileen's death is still affecting Kevin's creative side, so this walk served as a way of reinvigorating his life. Experiencing extreme heat and rainfall, Kevin made it to the convention this week with a ton of money raised for his charity.

"In the time since she died, I've struggled with how to deal with the loss. I've been self-destructive and my art suffered," hetold the San Diego Union-Tribune. "Being out here, my mindset is an open book. I hope I find enough healing to be creative and work in that way again."

He added: "When you lose somebody, you look for things like that. To me it was like she was telling me that this was something I needed to do."

This story reminds us of Jacob French is who walked over 4,000 kilometers in a Stormtrooper outfit from Perth to Sydney, Australia, raising money for the Starlight Foundation charity. Our main image is actually from Getty's coverage of Jacob's journey.
