'Game of Thrones' SPOILERS: Season 6 Premiere Date Revealed, Seasons 7 and 8 Renewal?

HBO's mega hit Game of Thrones will be back for Season 6, and now the premiere date has been revealed. But wait, there's more news about a potential renewal for Seasons 7 and 8! There are spoilers below, so be warned.

TVLine reported HBO's announcement that the Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones will air Sunday, April 24 at 9 p.m. Eastern. The Season 3 premiere of Silicon Valley and the Season 5 premiere of Veep will also air that night at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., respectively.

As if Season 6 weren't exciting enough, we can start looking ahead to Seasons 7 and 8!

TVLine's sister site, Deadline, spoke with HBO president Michael Lombardo, who confirmed that he has been speaking with Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss about renewing the show for a seventh and eighth season at the same time.

"I think 'seven seasons and out' has never been the conversation; the question is how much beyond the seventh season are we going to do," Lombardo said to reporters at TCA in July 2015. "[The producers are] feeling like there's probably two more years after six. I would love for them to change their minds, but that's what we're looking at right now."

Keep in mind that author George R.R. Martin, who wrote the book series upon which the show is based, has announced that the sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter, will not be released before Season 6 premieres. This has some fans on edge that the series will eventually pass by the books.

But Martin tried to assuage some of those fears in a recent blog post.

"Given where we are, inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in Season 6 of Game of Thrones that have not yet happened in the books," he wrote. "For years, my readers have been ahead of the viewers. This year, for some things, the reverse will be true."
