The CW's Supernatural has been on the air for what feels like eternity, but in reality the show is in the midst of its 11th season. In a new interview, network president Mark Pedowitz reveals that he's "very hopeful" the show will have a Season 12 renewal.

Pedowitz spoke at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California on Sunday, and TV Line reported his words about another season of the long-running series that stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.

"Both Jared and Jensen are having a blast," he said. "As long as they're having a blast, it's a great thing. The show is performing better than it did last year, better than you could ever hope. I'm very hopeful that we'll see it again."

Pedowitz did NOT, however, formally announce that the show would be back for Season 12.

The CW's president has said in the past that the show has a place on the network as long as the ratings continue to remain strong and as long as the writers and stars want to keep making more episodes. But one has to wonder just how long that second criterion will be true.

Let's assume that Ackles and Padalecki are happy with the quality of the show and want to continue as the leads for many more seasons (a safe assumption considering neither man has ever said anything to the contrary). The question then becomes about how to keep the show fresh and interesting.

Sam and Dean Winchester have fought and defeated almost every type of enemy imaginable in more than 200 episodes of the show. They've taken on demons, angels, vampires, werewolves, reapers, leviathans, witches, and even Lucifer himself. This year, they are dealing with The Darkness, perhaps the most ancient and powerful entity in the Supernatural universe. Realistically, where does the show go after this?

But then Supernatural produces episodes like this season's "Baby," which was as fresh and unique an episode of television as we've seen in some time. So maybe there's more life left in the show than some people think.
