Five years after Smallville ended, that show's Kara Zor-El, Laura Vandervoort, is coming back to DC television. Vandervoort was just cast as Indigo in Supergirl, where she'll no doubt give Melissa Benoist some advice on how to play Superman's cousin from Krypton!

According to Comic Book, Supergirl producers recently revealed during the TCA that Vandervoort will be arriving to the show's first season. She'll play Indigo, a villainess with an alien past. She's a supercomputer who once turned against the people of Krypton.

Vandervoort will be making her big début on the show on the first season's 15th episode.

Variety reports that she won't be the first alternate Kara Zor-El on the show. Helen Slater, who played the role in the 1984 Supergirl co-starring Hollywood legends Faye Dunaway and Peter O'Toole, will also be featured in the CBS show this season, playing Kara's adoptive mother, Eliza Danvers.

"There's gonna be an episode coming up that's gonna have Melissa, Laura and Helen Slater all in the same episode. We'll have three generations of Supergirl," said Andrew Kreisberg, the show's executive producer, when discussing what's next for the other member of the House of El that made it out of Krypton before the planet was destroyed.

Dean Cain, who played Superman in the 90's series Lois and Clark opposite Teri Hatcher, has also appeared on Supergirl. Appropriately enough, he's the one who plays Jeremiah Danvers, Kara's adoptive dad.

The two ladies aren't the only new additions to the Supergirl cast; Jeff Branson from The Young and the Restless will also have a recurrent role, playing Master Jailer. In the DC Universe, the character was the relentless guardian of Krypton's maximum-security prison, Fort Rozz, currently on Earth to bring Indigo to justice.
