Ahead of Barack Obama's last State of the Union address, CNN launched a parody version of the iconic speech as though it'd been directed by indie film favorite Wes Anderson. So, if you wanted to see politics through a pastel lens with some weird characters like The Grand Budapest Hotel, this might be your favorite viral video ever.

CNN senior reporter Chris Moody and his producer Alex Rosen created the fun and clever Washington parody to honor the Moonrise Kingdom filmmaker as well as Obama's last big address to the nation.

The new clip, which features Vice-President Joe Biden billed as "Uncle Joe," is filled with little references to Anderson's colorful and quirky world. Fans of the award-winning director will catch a few familiar themes like maps, a train, deadpan delivery and stern close-ups where everything moves smoothly in the back.

Moody spoke to The Observer about the hilarious clip, saying the idea was to give a twist to the coverage of the yearly event. In fact, Moody and Rosen had been "kicking around" the Anderson-Capitol Hill mash-up for a while without finding the right moment to do it until the SOTU.

"Capitol Hill always reminded me of a Wes Anderson film set," Moody said. "The adorned hallways, the symmetry of the building, and all the characters who breathe life into that place. The State of the Union has so much history and tradition attached that reminded me of his movies as well."

Moody also said that the point was that the traditions surrounding the State of the Union speech have remained the same for years, but the problem is that they also continue to be covered the exact same way by the media.

Among the video's highlights, there are shots of politicians getting ready and, of course, The Republican Response section, where Bobby Jindal enters the room while "These Days" by Nico plays in the background.
