The world is still grieving and in the shock from David Bowie's sudden death, and of course, more and more things about his last months are being revealed. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has revealed he wanted Bowie to make a cameo in the film's sequel, so it turns out the "Starman" could have been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Deadline, Gunn, who's currently working on preproduction for the film's sequel, Vol. 2, recounted how he and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had talked suggested bringing Bowie in for the film, even if it was just a cameo.

"I told him nothing in the world would make me happier, but I heard from common friends he wasn't doing well. We heard back that he was okay and it could potentially happen. Who knows what that was about?" Gunn recounted on a long and heartfelt post on his Facebook page. "Bowie was an idol of mine, huge and omnipresent. Few artists in any field have had as an indelible impression upon me as he has."

Gunn goes on to say that he thought Ziggy Stardust was "the greatest rock and roll album of all time" as far as he was concerned, adding that he wanted to put another one of Bowie's songs on the Vol. 2 soundtrack. The very popular soundtrack for the first film, Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1, included Bowie's "Moonage Daydream."

If Gunn makes it happen, Bowie would be the only artist featured on both films' soundtracks. Considering that much of the British singer's career revolved around the stars, space travel and a feeling of alienness, it would certainly make sense.

There has been an outpouring of tributes for Bowie in the days after his death was announced, from artists of all kinds, including Madonna, who recently paid homage to him in a Houston concert.
