Alan Rickman Dead at 69: 'Harry Potter' Actor Loses Battle With Cancer

MStars News has learned that another Hollywood star has died. Harry Potter's beloved actor Alan Rickman died at the age of 69 in London after losing his battle with cancer.

According to The Guardian, Rickman's death was confirmed Thursday by his family. The actor died "surrounded by family and friends."

Harry Potter cast members paid tribute to the late star. JK Rowling, who wrote the adventurous books, said in a statement on Twitter, "There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man." She added, "My thoughts are with Rima and the rest of Alan's family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts."

Daniel Radcliffe, who played the character of Harry Potter, wrote a lengthy message on Facebook. Radcliffe remembered that Rickman was very loyal and supported him as an actor. He said that Rickman treated him like a "peer" instead of seeing him as a child.

Emma Watson, Hermione Granger from the series, has been posting to all of her accounts since the news of Rickman's death was made public. Watson revealed on Facebook that she will miss all of their conversations.

I'm very sad to hear about Alan today. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor. I'll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you

Rickman also directed a number of films. He gained notable fame after starring as Hans Gruber in Die Hard. The actor's other roles included the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Harry in Love Actually, and Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply.
