NBC is just hours away from airing the 12th episode of Heroes Reborn, from creator Tim Kring (DIG). Unfortunately for fans, Season 2 of Heroes Reborn has been cancelled, meaning Luke Collins (Zachary Levi), Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman)'s next episode will also be the series finale.

As we previously mentioned, NBC canceled Heroes back in 2010. Whether by popular demand or the fact audiences just love nostalgia, the former superhero drama will return to the small screen. The NBC network announced a 13-episode miniseries entitled Heroes Reborn. and released a Super Bowl teaser trailer for the returning series. When the series picked up, in our recap, Noah Bennet (Coleman) was excited to live a "nice, suburban life," until his dreams were suddenly squashed by unexpected forces, which lead to the death of his estranged daughter, Claire.

According to TV Line, NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed the sad news at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena. Though the season premiere back in September rose to 6.1 million total viewers and hit a 2.0 demo rating. Back from hiatus, when the season resumed the ratings had dropped to 3.7 mil and a 1.0.

Greenblatt states, "As far as I know there are no more incarnations of Heroes coming."

The DIG co-creator had "always the plan" to do just one more season of Heroes. Greenblatt adds, ""unless [series creator] Tim [Kring] woke up one day and said, 'Oh, I have another chapter to tell.'"

The NBC entertainment chairman ends with a smirk, teasing reporters, "I think we're coming to the end... of the world, maybe. Stay tuned."

Heroes Reborn was a mishmash of new characters and familiar faces, returning to a time when superhero TV shows have become more than the norm.

The series finale of Heroes Reborn airs on NBC Thursday, January 21 at 8pm.

Readers, are you excited to see Heroes gone?
