If anyone knows what it's like to receive a little online backlash, it's Anne Hathaway. So when the Internet suddenly turned on Jennifer Lawrence for calling out a reporter who was on his phone while interviewing her, Hathaway understandably came to her famous friend's defense. Hathaway took to her Facebook page to express her opinion that people should "not punish [Lawrence] for these things."

The incident in question happened following the Golden Globes last Sunday, when Lawrence was answering questions for the press room following her Globe win. At one point, Lawrence called out a journalist, saying, "You can't live your whole life behind your phone, bro. You gotta live your life."

When that same reporter asked her how she was preparing for the Oscars, Lawrence took a jab at him again saying, "We're at the Golden Globes. If you'd put your phone down, you'd know that."

The press room seemed to find the quip funny, but when the video of the incident made its way online, many people took issue with the actress's comments. Several people found it to be rude and called Lawrence out for her words.

Now, Hathaway is coming to Lawrence's aide. Hathaway is famously no stranger to Internet hatred herself. Many people found issue with Hathaway for seemingly just being herself during awards season a few years back. On her Facebook page, Hathaway writes:

"Dear the Internet,

It's become pretty clear that the Jennifer Lawrence "scolding" was taken out of context and that she was dryly joking with a journalist who was indeed using his phone to take photos of her.Let's not continue the sad but common practice of building people- especially women-up just to viciously tear them down when we perceive them to have misstepped. Jennifer is a beautiful, talented, wildly successful, popular, FOUR TIME OSCAR NOMINATED young woman. Please let us not punish her for these things.

Sincerely,

A J-Law fan ‪#‎supportstrongwomen ‪#‎imwithher ‪#‎whycantwegiveloveonemorechance"
