The life of a beauty queen has just got tough for Miss Washington USA Stormy Keffeler, as she's been arrested on April 7 and convicted of driving under the influence just days after the pageant. She has voluntarily relinquished her crown to first runner-up, Miss Kelsey Schmidt.

The announcement to step down was published on Facebook on Thursday evening saying, "We can confirm the resignation of Stormy Keffeler as Miss Washington USA. Effective immediately, first runner-up Kelsey Schmidt will assume the title of Miss Washington USA 2016 and represent the state at the Miss USA event later this year. We wish Stormy well in her future endeavors," Maureen Francisco, co-executive producer of Miss Washington USA."

Keffeler competed in October, was subsequently crowned and given a sash, after winning the competition,  the preliminary to the Miss USA pageant. Since she failed to disclose her arrest to the pageant organizers, after signing a good conduct disclosure clause, as all of the contestants must agree to, it was in her best interest to resign before pageant officials asked her to relinquish her title. ABC News states that her blood level was up to three times the legal amount when she was pulled over in Seattle.

The police reports states that the Miss Washington contestant was driving on two flat tires and when pulled over, "the responding officer smelled of alcohol and eyes appeared droopy, bloodshot and watery." The arresting officer also reported, "When she got out of the car she stumbled ... was unsteady on her feet and swayed," the arresting officer wrote in the report.

The pageant organization is keeping it classy as they haven't condemned Keffeler for her mishap. According to WHQ 6 News, Northwest Productions and Francisco "urged people not to judge Keffeler, calling it a very unfortunate incident and saying "we all do stupid things."

Fortunately for Schmidt, the new Miss Washington State has released an official statement on the organizations Facebook page stating, "To say I am feeling honored and blessed tonight would be an understatement. As I embark on this year as your new Miss Washington USA 2016, I want everyone to know that I am here to serve the Miss Universe Organization, the contestants, and the entire state of Washington. What a privilege to work with David Vm, Maureen Francisco, and the entire Pageants NW staff. I look forward to utilizing my knowledge as a pre-doctoral fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington to empower young women to live a life of health and well-being. I look forward to seeing you throughout my year. My official coronation is on January 30th at the Beauty | Brand | Believe Expo and more details will be provided soon. Let my preparations begin!"
